Windows 2000 arrived! April 19, 2008

as you may have noticed in my last post, my installation of windows 2000 on my old computer did not work but it did install on VPC.
here are some pictures of the box and what was in it. there is not picture of the CD because i am using it right now but i will edit this post later with pictures of it.
this virtual machine was upgraded from windows 98. the upgrade with really smooth on a virtual machine. windows 2000 is supported by microsoft on virtual pc so if something goes wrong, just call them!

i was trying to install windows 2000 on my really old computer (you can see the specs in the what i use section at the top of the page, it’s the REALLY old computer). here’s what actually happened, while i was formatting the drive, the computer all of a sudden started beeping. so i take the side panel off and see that the fan the cools the processor was not spinning. i immediately unplug it and let it cool off, after 15 minutes i try it again and enter the BIOS settings and still the fan does not spin. so it looks like i will be buying another thing off ebay, this time a fan.
BTW, the fan is a socket 370 (i think) which i can’t find anywhere else but ebay. i’ll have an update later.

finally! linux is finally running just fine on VPC. all i needed to get every linux distro working on VPC was to add clock=pit to the boot parameters. i’ll post some picture of it working later this week.
Microsoft says the Upgrade Hack is illegal April 15, 2008

i don’t know why anyone would not know that it was illegal since microsoft has all this activation stuff which is supposed to stop that kind of stuff. (more details here ) the windows vista upgrade hack is now blocked when you install SP1. i’ve never used it so it doesn’t really effect me but anyone who has done this, i would recommend formatting your hard drive and buy the full version then upgrading an old computer.

i ordered windows 2000 professional off ebay last night for $75!! windows 2000’s retail price is over $125! i’ll be doing a video about how to upgrade from windows 98 to windows 2000 as soon as i get it. btw, windows 2000, windows 1.0, and windows 3.0 are the only operating systems i’ve never used. i’ll post some more when i arrives
